Established circa 1883 in London, England, William Evans Limited Gun & Rifle Makers have been making high quality shotguns and rifles for over 130 years. This double rifle is in .360 Express caliber and features a beaded folding and blade front ramped sight and three leaf (two folding, one fixed) rear sight with "100", "200" and "500" yard markings and silver sighting lines on each leaf. The matte solid rib has an extension. There is a sling swivel eye mounted on the underside. The top of the right barrel at the breech is marked "".400/.360. 2 3/4 CASE. 40 .GR & CORDITE"" followed by "WILLIAM EVANS" and ""300 GRS. SOFT NOSE SOLID POINTED BULLET"" followed by "65. PALL MALL, ST JAMES'S LONDON" on the left barrel. The underside of each barrel is marked with the matching serial number. The flats are marked with four British proofmarks and "360EX", "CORDITE 40-300 MAX" on each side. The water table is marked with a "crown/V" proof and the matching serial number on each side. The action, forearm hardware, trigger guard and break lever are nicely engraved with floral scroll designs. Each side of the action is marked "WILLIAM EVANS" and the serial number is on the lower tang. The action and forearm hardware are casehardened and the remaining metal surfaces are blue. Double triggers, tang mounted automatic safety with gold "SAFE" and mounted with a deluxe nicely figured multi-point checkered splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with engraved grip cap, teardrop flats, cheek piece, solid rubber Old English recoil pad, sling swivel eye and silver initial oval. The length of pull is 15 inches. The rifle comes with a leather and oak case with a brass disk on the lid inscribed "RATLAM", brass corner protectors, leather straps and handle, and green felt lining with a William Evans label affixed to the inside of the lid.

Very fine as professionally refurbished with 99% blue finish remaining and 70% of the vivid case colors remaining. The wood shows a few tiny dings on the forearm, a small minor pressure dent on the left stock flat, as well as a few minor dents. The checkering is sharp. The markings and clear and the engraving is crisp. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good. The straps are replacements. The exterior shows some wear, stains and scratches, and the lining shows some areas of heavy wear, loss of material and some staining.
