Manufactured in late 1942. Fixed sights, with the two-line, two-block patent and address markings around the Rampant Colt on the left side of the matching numbered slide, and a "G.H.D." inspected frame with "K/VP" and "55" on the trigger guard. Fitted with a flat top rear sight, wide checkered hammer, short milled trigger, long grip safety, arched checkered mainspring housing, reinforced Colt grips and a "COLT 45 AUTO" marked barrel. Included with the pistol is an extra magazine and a brown leather shoulder rig with two magazine pouches, an unidentified brand on the main body (appears to read "lazy S over a combined uAu") and a nickel finished plate engraved "J. MACKEY/MAKER/AUCKLAND" (active in New Zealand in the 1940s) on the front. Unfortunately, no information is available on the course this pistol took from the arsenals of the United States to the present day, leaving only speculation on where this pistol might have gone and what it might have done.
Fine with 70% of the dark, thin original parkerized finish, showing a few small patches of pin-prick pitting, the start of a brown patina and mild edge wear and handling marks. The grips are very fine, with a few mild dings. The holster is good, with some cracking of the leather and tears of the straps. Mechanically excellent.
