Manufactured in 1883. It is fitted with extra long 28 inch octagon barrel with a unique replacement two folding blade front sight, a standard notch/folding ladder rear sight marked 1876, checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock, and the Third Model integral dust cover guide rail and dust cover with grasping grooves. The barrel is marked with the two-line address and King's improvement marking. The serial number is behind the latch on the lower tang and the upper tang has the model designation. The left side of the lower tang, is marked "X 1678 R". The butt has an empty trapdoor compartment.
Very good as partially refinished. 20% of the original blue finish and fiery case colors remain with otherwise mottled gray and brown patina, patches of pitting and some minor oxidation. The dust cover retains 60% of the original blue. The wood is very good as recheckered/refinished with a hairline crack in the right side of the butt, distinct checkering and minor marks. The action needs work and the markings are clear. The lever does not always put the hammer into full cock, and the elevator does not lift.
