This is an example of an early production DWM Model 1900 Swiss Contract Luger. This is one of only 2,000, Swiss model 1900 commercial Lugers manufactured. This series of Lugers also has all the early features such as desirable early style, larger flat safety lever with the coarse checkering, narrow trigger, dished toggles with toggle lock, flat/recessed breech bolt, no stock lug, grip safety, short frame and barrel extension with the flat main spring and fast taper 4 3/4 inch barrel. The top of the chamber area is stamped with the "Swiss Cross" in a sunburst, and the front toggle is marked "DWM". The left side of the barrel extension is stamped with only the serial number "251," and since its such an early example, it does not have any of the later firing or acceptance proofmarks. This example still retains the original early "V" notch rear sight and early Swiss pattern "V" front sight. The front of the frame and underside of the barrel are both numbered with serial number (251), and the various small parts are numbered with the last two digits (51) of the serial number to include the back sides of each grip panel and the back side of the takedown lever. It is complete with two Swiss correct early nickel plated magazines with the flat loading button, and the small circular discs on the sides of the unmarked wooden bases, a brass cleaning rod with the steel oiler handle, an unnumbered takedown tool and a full box of DWM 7.65 m/m Luger ammunition all stored in a custom period black leatherette case.
Fine as modified with 70% of the blue finish overall, edge and high spot wear overall, and blue loss and thinning on the grip straps. The smaller parts retain 60% of their straw colors with slightly more color in the protected areas. The walnut grips are in fine condition with nice, distinct checkering overall showing no visible handling marks. Although this Luger started as an unrelieved frame a small area on the front right side has been partially relieved at some point but still not enough to insert a standard Luger magazine. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are all in fine condition.
