The lot consists of a non-matching Colt black box for .45 caliber SAA #82153 that contains a casehardened frame fitted with a blued 7 1/2 inch barrel and ejector, a cylinder, pair of Rampant Colt/Federal Eagle grips (numbered to two different guns), front and back grip straps, and a bag of smaller components. None of the main parts have serial numbers, but the frame and barrel have the patent, caliber, and address markings. The underside of the frame on the left is marked "EXP," and the assembly number "797" is marked the right side rear of the frame. The loading gate has the assembly number "743." Why it is marked as experimental is not clear. It is possible the various components were purchased as loose parts and grouped together outside of the factory as a complete parts kit. The box also contains a handwritten note from Mike Poulin that lists the boxes contents and some instructions regarding assembly noting that the end of the barrel will need filed to fit the cylinder, the back of the trigger must be ground so that it fits the hammer notches, and the hand may need to be ground so that the timing is right. As it currently sits, the breech end of the barrel prevents the cylinder from being fitted.
Exceptionally fine as unassembled. 97% plus of the original blue finish and case colors remain. There are only some minor marks from handling and storage. The grips are near excellent with some minor dings and scuffs. The markings are crisp. The box is very good with some edge wear including one torn corner that has been taped. This is certainly something unique to add to a Colt SAA collection.
