This is an example of a Biedermann pistol. It operates on the same basic hammer mechanism as Christian Sharps' four barrel pepperbox pistols but is much larger and has a different frame and grip frame. Biedermann worked in Vienna from 1865 to 1880. The top barrel cluster rib is inscribed "H. BIEDERMANN'S PATENT". The serial number is on the butt as is a lanyard eyelet. The "W. . ." is stamped on the underside of the barrel cluster and on the frame under the barrel cluster. The frame has a floral scrollwork patterns that extend to the grip straps. The grips are checkered and have some hand scratched markings.
Very good. The barrel group retains 20% of the faded original blue finish. The balance of the pistol display brown and gray patina and some light oxidation. The grips are also very good and have crisp checkering and minor scratches and dings. The action functions fine, and the engraving is crisp.
