This is a rare original example of a Winchester Model 1892 Fancy Sporting Rifle that was manufactured in 1907. This rifle has several special order features rarely encountered on Winchester Model 1892 rifles. These features include: (1) Nickel plated Swiss buttplate, (2) double set triggers, (3) deluxe, fancy grade, forearm and pistol grip stock, (4) "Style H" checkering on the pistol grip and forearm, (4) half-magazine and, (5) tang mounted folding combination rear sight. The 24-inch round barrel has a blued steel Lyman front sight with set screw on the right side of the base and flat top sporting style rear sight. The barrel, forearm cap, receiver, loading gate, set triggers and bolt are blued. The hammer and lever are color casehardened. The nicely figured, fancy grade walnut stock and forearm have a high polish piano finish. The pistol grip has a black hard rubber cap embossed: "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.". The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED OCTOBER 14, 1884." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber: "32 W.C.F." is stamped on the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver. Oval Winchester "W/P" proof marks are stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver. The serial number, "381500" is roll-stamped across the bottom of the receiver. The combination of deluxe, checkered pistol grip stock, Swiss buttplate, double set triggers and a tang peep sight is extremely rare on a Winchester Model 1892 rifle.
Very fine. The rifle is all original and retains at least 85% of blue finish. Nearly all the blue finish is present on the barrel. The finish on the forearm cap is thin but 75% intact. The receiver has finish wear on the high points and edges with significant handling wear on the bottom and lower left side. 75% of the blue finish is present on the bolt, lower tang and loading gate. The hammer and lever have 70% of the case-hardened finish intact The brass Swiss buttplate retains about 70% of the nickel-plated finish. The deluxe walnut stock and forearm remain in excellent condition with about 95% of the high polish piano finish and sharp checkering. Wear is limited to a few minor handling marks on the underside of the forearm and left side of the wrist. This is a very fine example of a Winchester Deluxe Model 1892 Fancy Sporting Rifle with rare special order features. Deluxe Model 1892 Winchesters are very difficult to obtain!
