Developed in late 1944 these M1C rifles were used throughout the later days of WWII, again in Korea and even into the early days of Vietnam by both the Army and USMC, until the development of the M21 and M40 sniper rifles. This rifle has a gray/green arsenal refurbished parkerizing with the following parts; a late WWII barrel marked "1 S-A-3-45" along with a modified operating rod marked: "D35382-9-SA", an earlier bolt marked "D28287-12-SA", trigger housing marked "D28290-5-SA", unmarked milled trigger guard. It is fitted with the late war locking bar, type rear sight, and wide base gas cylinder and a round top gas cylinder lock and four-slot gas cylinder plug. The scope bracket (only) was replaced during the refurbishment and is etched with number "3372487" on the upper, underside edge of the base. This rifle is fitted with a correct blued, WWII type G&H mount that has the Griffin & Howe company markings on top, numbered "3551992" on the back side. The mount is fitted with an original blued M82 telescopic sight. The M82 telescopic sight has the correct post reticle and is roll-stamped in three lines on the left side "TELESCOPE M82/SERIAL NO. 275/STOCK NO. F001-0084688". The telescope is complete with the rubber eyepiece, sliding sun shade and windage and elevation knob covers with part numbers on the top. The stock is fitted with a correct, late WWII lace-on leather cheekpiece. The top, left side of the cheekpiece is stamped "K-Line", who was the original WWII manufacturer of these items for the Army. The rifle is fitted with a walnut stock that is stamped with a single circled "P" proof in the pistol grip area. It is complete with a M1C flash hider and a GI type leather sling. This rifle is accompanied/documented by a set of Title X Military transfer papers (not CMP) from the military which clearly state (Rifle M1C).
Very fine with 95% of the arsenal refurbished parkerized finish showing minor edge and high spot wear overall with thinning of the finish on receiver side rail from cycling. The stock and handguard set all have a nice dark brown color showing some minor handling marks and light pressure dents here and there. The scope and mount also retains 95% of their blue finish overall and have clear sharp markings. The optics is clear, but a little hazy. The cheekpiece is also in very good condition with a nice brown color overall with the underside showing some minor age cracking with three of the brass eyelets having pulled thru the leather. The sling is in excellent condition. A very nice looking WWII/Korean War era Springfield Armory M1C rifle.
