This is a very fine example of a very early cased, "two-digit" serial number (59) Ludwig Loewe & Co., Model 1893 Borchardt pistol that includes a black leather carrying case unserialized, walnut shoulder stock, sling, spare magazine, dummy magazine with oiler, matching cheekpiece and cleaning rod. This is one of the earliest cased Borchardt pistol sets that we have ever offered for sale. The chamber area is marked in three lines "WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN" and the right side has the early markings of: "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT.". The top of the toggle link is stamped "N.R.P./No. 75837". The pistol serial number "59" is visible on the stock lug, the bottom of the pistol grip, the left side of the trigger, the rear underside of the barrel and on the base of one magazine. The left side of the barrel has the standard "Crown over B, U and G" proofs, while the left front edge of the barrel extension, the left side of the breechblock and toggle assembly have the standard Crown over the "B and U" acceptance proofs. As noted this Borchardt rig comes with one spare replacement nickel-plated wooden base magazine that was stamped with "585" which has been over stamped with a number "9". The wooden dummy magazine has the brass oiler on the bottom. The restored stock matches an original DWM version that is unnumbered and both the stock and dummy magazine are marked: "GESETZLICH GESCHUTZT", meaning "LAW PROTECTED", under the early patent laws. The walnut shoulder stock comes with its detachable cheekpiece numbered "59" on the back side. The set comes with the screwdriver handle with the long brass cleaning rod and two separate screwdriver tips and also two steel drift punches. It also includes the small silver oiler and leather cover and a small brass tin of Vaseline (lubrication) that is marked made by the Carl Abermann & Co. Frankfurt". The pistol and accessories are housed in a black leather covered carrying/luggage-type that has nickel plated fittings with the top of the lid, inset with a unmarked brass oval name plate in the center of the lid. The case interior is lined with green velvet and divided into eight compartments.
Very fine with 85% plus of the blue finish overall with minor edge and high spot wear with a slight oxidation and thinning/light browning on the grip straps with some blue loss due to the cycling of the action. The markings are clear and sharp. The grips are in very fine condition with fine original checkering overall with some light wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with some minor light flats spots in a couple of areas. The restored walnut stock and cheekpiece are both in very fine condition with a nice light brown color overall. The spare magazine is in very good condition with light pitting on the sides with a dark base. The restored leather case, is in fine condition with a relined green felt interior with only minor handling marks on the sides. Overall a very nice looking and very early cased Borchardt pistol rig.
