While the sword does closely follow the overall pattern of the U.S. 1840 Heavy Cavalry Sword, the guard substitutes iron for the traditional brass, a deviation seen on other martial arms marketed by Tiffany. Measuring 42 inches overall, the 36 inch curved double fuller blade is marked "P.D.L." in an oval on the left ricasso and "TIFFANY&CO/NEW-YORK" on the right. The two-branch guard is unmarked, with a twisted wire wrapped leather grip. With an iron scabbard.
Very good. The fine blade has bright original polish, with some light spotting overall and the hilt and scabbard show a mixed brown patina. The leather is lightly cracked with some play in the wire and a single turn absent near the pommel.
