Manufactured in 1885. This rifle features a dovetailed blade front and adjustable buckhorn rear sights on the shortened barrel with half length magazine tube. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/King's Improvement patent dates, "50-95 W.C.F.", at the breech and what appears to be a partial British proof mark on the left rear. The serial number is marked on the lower tang and the bottom of the cartridge elevator is marked "50-95". The upper tang is fitted with a long range peep sight. Blue barrel and casehardened remaining parts. Mounted with deluxe XX multi-point checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a shogun buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is marked "284 XX S" indicating the special order and grade of wood. The number "284" is also in the upper tang channel of the stock and on the toe of the buttplate.
Fine as semi-professionally refurbished with 98% blue and casehardened finish remaining. The dust cover "Express" markings are crudely re-engraved. There are some minor chips on the rear edge of the forearm and some tiny paint specks on the stock. The re-cut checkering is very crisp. Unless noted above, the markings are clear. The action is very good.
