Description:

This is an original U.S. Property marked Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless Pistol that was manufactured in late 1942 in the desirable .380 caliber. It is complete with an original U.S. Army issue shoulder holster for these small frame Colt 1908 pistols along with its shipping box. Similar examples of this type of holster are discussed in Scott Meadows soon to be published book on military holsters and accessories as being issued to OSS soldiers. The left side of the slide is marked with the two-line Colt address and patent dates of 1897 and 1903, with the Colt Rampant horse trademark behind the slide serrations with the right side of the slide marked: "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE .380 HAMMERLESS". The Left side of the frame has the factory serial number 136324 along with a small Cross-Cannon US Ordnance proof behind the slide lock. The right side of the frame is correctly marked has the "U.S. PROPERTY". The slide has the later flat top rear sight and standard front sight blade. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with the Colt "VP" proof and the letter "X" and the right side is stamped with the Colt sub inspector proof of "64". The magazine is blue and the floor plate is marked: "CAL.380/COLT". The pistol has the high polish commercial blue finish and is fitted with checkered walnut grips with silver-plated Colt Medallions.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% of the faded blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear overall with the sides and top area of the slide showing a mixed brown patina with minor blue loss on the transition line. The frame retains nice vivid blue with some minor thinning on the grip straps. The grips are also in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides with even honest wear across the tops of the checkering overall with slightly more wear on the lower right side. The holster and shipping box are both in like new condition with the holster and straps appearing to be unissued.
