This is an example of a German police marked Mauser P38 pistol. The P38 became a standard police issued firearm late in the war. This example has the "Eagle/L" police proofmark on the right side of the slide along with an "Eagle/135" Waffenamt proof. The left side of the slide has the "byf/43" markings along with a commercial "Eagle/N" proof. The left side of the frame has an "Eagle/135" proof and the left side of the barrel lug has an "Eagle/135" proof, and an "Eagle/N" proof. The mix of Waffenamt and commercial/police proofs is due to the fact that Waffenamt inspected components were made available to police inspectors based on requirements at the time. All parts began as military components. The visible serial numbers match. P38 police pistols were in a separate serial number block with no letter suffix, which was apart from the military series. The pistol is fitted with a set of ribbed grips. The magazine has an "Eagle/88" proof stamped on the spine. Includes a black leather holster
Very good as arsenal/importer refinished with 90% of the blue finish. The barrel and high edges of the slide and frame show moderate edge wear. The exposed grip strap shows moderate thinning of finish due to normal handling. Grips are very good with some moderate handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Holster is good with solid stitching and some edge wear.
Fixed sights with "P.38" and "ac/43" on the left side of the slide, "eagle/359" and "eagle/swastika" proofs on a number of parts, and matching numbers on the slide, frame, barrel and locking block. Fitted with ribbed dark brown plastic grips and a "P.38" marked magazine. Includes a black leather holster with a "WaA938" acceptance mark and the word "CRIPP" carved on the back.
Very fine as professionally refinished with 97% of the blue finish displaying some light handling and cycling marks as well as some scattered very small nicks. Some of the numbers on the locking block appear to have been struck twice. The grips are excellent with some small mild abrasions. Mechanically excellent. Holster is good with solid stitching, some rub marks throughout and supple leather.
