Manufactured in 1891, this Colt Lightning has primarily a nickel plated finish with nitre blued small parts and a pair of checkered Rampant Colt grips. The top of the barrel has the two line Hartford address while the caliber designation is stamped on the left side. The frame has the three line patent information on the left side at the front followed by the circled Rampant Colt emblem. The matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard and back strap, and the partial number "626" is marked on the rear face of the cylinder and underside of the grips. The loading gate has the assembly number "513", and "38" is marked on the barrel above the cylinder pin which can be used to eject spent cases in place of an ejector. Colt manufactured a total of 166,849 Model 1877s from 1877 through 1909 with nickel plated finish less common than blue/casehardened examples.
Very fine. The revolver retains 85% plus of the original nickel plating and nearly 80% of the original nitre blue finish with some minor pitting and flaking especially along the back strap. The exposed surfaces have a brown patina. The grips are excellent with sharp checkering. All markings are clear, and it is mechanically excellent.
