Description:Manufactured in 1920. This unique operating system was designed by T.C. Johnson, for the Winchester company to compete with the popular Browning Auto 5 self loading shotgun, which was at the time, the only autoloader on the market. To avoid infringing on the Browning patent, the barrel itself was used as the charging mechanism. After loading in the standard manner, the barrel is pulled rearward by use of the checkered grip section. This has the potential for obvious safety issues. With a pinch blade with bead front, and receiver notch rear sights. With a 2 3/4 inch chamber, choked full. Mounted on a smooth walnut forearm with finger grooves and a laminated pistol grip stock, with a checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. Length of pull is 13 3/4 inches.
Rating Definition:Very good, with 80% original blue finish. Displaying scattered areas of edge wear, light pitting, thinning finish, and surface scratches. The wood is very good, with some minor indentations and handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
