This is a rare example of a highly embellished/engraved Remington Model "8D". These were manufactured from 1906-1936, with this example having a beautiful fine line English scroll engraving that covers approximately 50% of the rifle, to include the top, underside and both sides of the receiver as well as the breech end of the barrel. It has the standard two line Remington factory markings on top of the barrel. The barrel a beaded front blade on a short base, it is missing the rear sight and it has a rare "M&A" tang mounted adjustable rear sight. The left side of the sight base is marked: "M&A Co./Gladstone Mich U.S.A." with patent pending on the right side. It has the scarce special order round knob pistol grip stock with checkered on the side of the pistol grip area and forearm. It is fitted with a Remington Arms Co. marked checkered hard rubber buttplate.
Very good overall with 80% original blue finish displaying areas of high edge wear, moderate handling marks, some scratching, as well as areas of light to moderate spotting on the barrel and rear of the receiver. Two sleeved/plugged holes for a barrel sporting type rear sight. The wood is good, with moderate scratches, some deep pressure indentations, some smoothed checkering, and varnish loss throughout. Buttplate has a 1 1/2 inch chip missing from the toe. Mechanically excellent.
