Description:This is an example of a late WWII production Mauser "byf" code Luger pistol. These have been given the collector term "Black Widow" Luger due to their dark blue/black salt finish. The top of the chamber is dated "42" and the toggle is marked "byf", the war time code for the Mauser factory. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with a German firing proof and two "eagle/135" proofs. The firing proof is marked on the right rear of the barrel and an "eagle/135" on the left. It has the standard fixed sights and safety and loaded marked. The major components are all correctly stamped with the full serial number (4564) with the various smaller parts carrying the last two digits (64). The left rear side of the frame is marked "P.08" which is also a feature of these late production Lugers. It has the checkered walnut grips that have the serial number (4564) written in ink on the back side of each grip. It is complete with a blued magazine with an aluminum base that is stamped: "4114/n".
Rating Definition:Very fine as refurbished/refinished with 90% of the blue finish remaining with wear and minor blue loss on the edges and high spots with some minor touch up on the center of the grip straps. The grips are in very good condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides showing light wear across the grips. Mechanically fine.
