Description:This is a very rare WWII German sniper scope and ring set for the highly desirable German FG-42 assault rifle. The FG-42 was the weapon chosen by Herman Goring to equip the German/Luftwaffe paratroopers. It was a very innovative, select fire weapon that the Germans had designed to be equipped with a sniper scope. There were only 5000 rifles made in total with a large number intended to be equipped with some type of optical sighting device, however, only a few hundred or maybe thousand were actually ever equipped with a sniper scope. The scope itself was a standard ZF4 sniper scope as developed for the K/G-43 series of rifles. This scope was fitted with a set of stamped scope rings with a single locking lever on each side of the rigs to secure them to the rifle. The let side of the scope is marked: "Gw ZF4/33805/ddx" followed by a larger capital letter "L" indicating issue by the Luftwaffe. The rings are a made of various stampings with a single locking lever on the base of each ring. It is complete with a reproduction rubber eye-cup.
Rating Definition:Very fine with 70% of the faded blue finish remaining on the scope tube itself with the balance being a silvery gray/brown patina finish. The markings are clear and sharp. The scope rings retain 80% of phosphate finish overall with some dark staining/ spotting on the front ring. The optics are clear with no dust specs inside. The rubber eye-cut, as noted, is a fine reproduction. A very nice example of a really rare original FG-42 sniper scope and ring set.
