This revolver has light scroll and border engraving and is marked "84 LONG ACRE LONDON" on the top of the barrel, "WEBLEY'S PATENT" in a banner on the left side of the frame, "BY HER MAJESTY'S ROYAL LETTERS PATENT" on the rear strap, and with serial number "1555" on the loading arm, barrel lug, cylinder pin, back of the cylinder, frame, hammer, and back strap. The cylinder is numbered 1 through 5 near each nipple, and there are various British proofs throughout. It has a blade front sight, a notch in the hammer for a rear sight, long straight hammer spur, and is fitted with a pair of checkered walnut grips and a lanyard loop. The barrel address was that of Cowie & Co. (aka Cowie & Son), listed as silversmiths at the in the early part of the 19th century and latter Urch & Co. "Saddlers by Appointment" whose entry in DEBRETT'S PEERAGE 1876 advertises goods for "Cavalry, Artillery, and Rifle Corps. Appointments." Five conical bullets and a number of caps. The revolver comes in a wooden case with a green felt lined interior with compartments for the accessories which include a powder flask, oiler, screw driver, wrench, patch cutter, double bullet mold, cleaning rod, and an "ELEY'S" tin of percussion caps and five conical bullets. A "John Blanch & Son." label is fixed to the inside of the lid.
Very good. Noticeable blue finish remains on the barrel lug and under the cylinder on the frame while the remaining areas have an even gray patina. There is some light surface pitting, a few light scratches, and some spotting throughout. The grips are very good with sharp checkering. Mechanically fine with clear engraving and markings. The retailer case is about good with several cracks and chips on the revarnished exterior and some stains and repairs on the interior. The accessories are fine overall.
