Description:

This is a very nice example of a late, Type 2 NM M1 rifle. The receiver markings are as follows: "U.S. RIFLE, CAL. 30 M1, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" over 6098883. The right side of the receiver is marked "Z16A/F6528291", and the barrel is marked "SA F6535448 8-56 A228" with the "P" and "M" proof marks. The front portion of the exposed barrel has the correct "NM" markings on the left side. The various parts are marked as follows: Trigger housing: 6528290-SA; Trigger guard: stamped unmarked; Hammer: SA C5546008; Safety: SA-11; Bolt: 6528287-SA/A15; Modified Operating Rod: D35382-3 SA with no NM markings on top of the cocking handle; Bullet Guide: stamped unmarked; Follower Arm: unmarked; Op Rod Catch Assy: single bevel unmarked. The rear sight set is the late post-war NM version that is marked "NHS" and "NM" on the windage knob. The sight base is marked "NM" and the aperture is early version that does not have the hood. The gas cylinder is a late post war version marked "NM" on the rear tang with the wide base, high hump gas cylinder lock, and the late four slot gas plug. The front sight is also marked "NM/062" on the right side. The stock and hand guards are the correct walnut versions; they have the late accuracy improvements where the barrel band and front hand guard have been unitized (glued together only) and the stock has been glass bedded. The left side of the stock has the DOD acceptance cartouche and a single "P" proof in the pistol grip area. It is complete with a letter from the CMP which stated that this rifle was sold through the DCM in August of 1960 at the Camp Perry National Matches.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 98% plus of the original parkerized finish with light wear on the edges and high spots overall from light handling and limited firing. The stock and hand guards are all in excellent condition showing light handling marks on the left side of the stock with a small chip on the rear hand guard where the edge of it meets the edge of the stock. The cartouches are clear and distinct. A nice example of a Type 2 National Match M1 Garand rifle.
