1) SMF Second Pattern Luftwaffe Dagger, 15 1/4 inches overall with a 10 inch "droop wing eagle/5" marked blade, polished alloy fittings, wire wrapped white celluloid grip and a silver portapee with matching acorn. With a nickel finished alloy scabbard marked "J.G.54" on the throat and a belt hanger with square buckles and a "U.E.10 RZM" marked hook. Though not confirmed, "J.G.54" may indicate Jagdgeschwader 54, also known as the Green Hearts. At 9,600 (yes, nine thousand six hundred) kills, JG 54 is the second most successful fighter wing in human history, having served as bomber escorts and air superiority fighters in the invasions of Poland and France, participated in the Battle of Britain, and spent most of the war on the Eastern Front. Virtually obliterated during a last stand on the Courland Peninsula in Eastern Prussia/Belarus, the survivors of JG 54 continued to fight on the Western Front until the last weeks of World War II. 2) WKC Second Pattern Kriegsmarine Dagger, 14 3/4 inches overall with a 9 1/2 inch etched double fuller blade, gilt brass hilt fittings wire wrapped white celluloid grip and a silver portapee with matching acorn. With an engraved brass scabbard.
1) Very good, with some light spotting on the blade, high edge wear on the scabbard, and some fraying of the portapee. Part of the hook assembly is absent. 2) Fine, with mild spotting on the blade, fraying of the portapee, a few dents on the scabbard and mild handling marks overall.
