Often referred to as the Winder Musket after the acclaimed marksman Colonel C.B. Winder. Manufactured circa 1922. Standard blade front sight and Lyman receiver peep sight adjustable for windage and elevation. Left side of barrel marked with the two line Winchester address/patent dates and "22 SHORT" at the breech, as well as the Winchester oval proof. "U.S./ordnance bomb" directly behind the hammer and the three line Winchester trade mark on the upper tang. Mounted with a smooth full walnut forearm with finger grooves and straight grip stock with a steel carbine buttplate and sling swivels.
Very fine. The musket retains 85% original blue finish concentrated mainly on the receiver, showing a smooth brown patina on the barrels with strong original blue in the protected areas. The receiver shows some minor pitting, edge wear and a few minor dings and scratches. The refinished wood is fine showing a few scattered minor dents and dings. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
