This Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifle was manufactured in 1900 and is chambered for the 50 Express caliber. The rifle is equipped with a blade front sight and two-leaf rear sight. The top of the round barrel is stamped "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CON. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight and "50 EX" is stamped on top of the barrel at the breech. The receiver is finely casehardened and has the serial number and two line 1884 and 1885 patent dates marking stamped on the lower tang and "-MODEL 1886-" stamped on the upper tang. The rifle has a full length magazine tube and is mounted on a smooth forearm and straight grip stock featuring a steel forend cap and a crescent buttplate.
Fine, with 50% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown patina and scattered handling marks. The frame has taken on a silvered patina, with strong traces of the original pattern and original color visible in the protected areas. A tang sight was installed at one point, then later removed and the original screws returned. Stock is good as lightly cleaned, with a small chip absent from the right side of the wrist, a smaller chip from the left, and light scratches and dents overall. No factory letter is available to writer, but appears correct as the wear is very even and there is no evidence of barrel change. Mechanically excellent.
