This is an example of a very unique production sample Ithaca Model 1911A1 pistol. The pistol must have been picked up at the factory prior to being serial numbered or government inspected. Another very unique feature about the pistol is that the magazine release button is smooth, it hadn't been checkered yet (writer cannot ever recall seeing this!) The pistol reportedly was the original property of Brigadier General Maxwell C. Snyder. Writer found little other than a photo of the General on the internet. A photo of the General with other officers accompanies the pistol. The left side of the slide has the standard two line address ahead of the serrations and the right side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY", inverted serial number "4X" ahead of the slide stop hole and "M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY". Checkered trigger, hammer and thumb safety with a serrated slide stop. Blue unmarked magazine with "MS" scratched into the left side, lanyard loop on the heel and fitted with checkered Keyes Fiber plastic grips.
Excellent. The pistol retains 97% original parkerized finish with some wear on the left side of the slide and high edges with thinning on the grip safety. Overall there are some minor scratches and scuffs. The grips are also excellent with a couple of minor dents and sharp checkering. The markings remain crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. A very nice unique and rare production sample 1911A1 pistol.
