This 12 bore rifle was manufactured by George Smith of London. It has a blade front sight and four leaf express rear sight on a solid rib marked "GEORGE SMITH, NEW BOND STREET, LONDON" with a wedge of engraved scrollwork at the breech. The breech end of the Damascus barrels have a band of scroll engraving and the barrels have an extractor. The lock, hammers, trigger guard and break lever feature an English scroll engraving. The locks are marked "GEORGE SMITH" ahead of the hammer and have sliding hammer safeties. The Jones under lever style action has double triggers. Mounted with a nicely figured pistol grip stock with checkered forearm and grip area, single barrel wedge, ebony forend insert, engraved metal grip cap, sling eyelets, heart shaped inlay behind upper tang, cheekpiece and steel shotgun buttplate. The buttplate has an engraved checkered pattern with scrollwork around the floral blossom engraved screw heads.
Fine. The barrels retain 90% of the Damascus pattern with a smooth gray patina. The action retains traces of original case colors in the protected areas. The wood is fine with a repaired buttstock, some minor handling marks and some wear in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
