Description:1) Framed signature of famous Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The signature is on lined paper and appears to be part of a letter written by Lee. Under the signature Lee wrote "Bvt Col. USA" suggesting that the signature is from 1861 when Lee was appointed Colonel of the U.S. First Regiment of Cavalry in March 1861. Three weeks after his promotion, Colonel Lee was offered a senior command (with the rank of Major General) in the expanding army of the Southern States that had seceded from the Union. Professionally matted and framed with an portrait illustration of Lee depicted in his Confederate uniform with the insignia of a Confederate colonel, which he chose to wear throughout the Civil War. Frame measures 15 1/4" x 11 1/2". 2) Memorial ribbon for Robert E. Lee (see image).
Rating Definition:1) Excellent with a clear signature and portrait. 2) Very good, as aged with mild fraying on the ends.
