Description:

This potent .405 WCF chambered Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Rifle was manufactured in 1905. The rifle is chambered for the rare and very desirable .405 Winchester cartridge. The left side of the barrel is marked with the two line nickel steel/smokeless powder marking, the top of the barrel at the breech is marked with the Winchester oval proof and "405 W.C.F.". The left side of the receiver is marked with the two line address/patent dates, the upper tang with the three line model, maker trademark marking and the serial number is on the lower tang. Ramped blade front sight with ivory bead and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight, and mounted with a smooth forearm with ebony forend insert and replacement straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate. The accompanying Cody letter verifies the serial number, rifle configuration, 405 caliber, that the rifle was received in the warehouse on February 3, 1906, and that on August 9, 1906 a shotgun buttstock and rubber buttplate were added and it was shipped out on the same day. (Not as currently configured).

Rating Definition:

Very good. The receiver and barrel retain 40% original blue finish mixed with smooth brown patina. The receiver is a mix of smooth brown and gray patina, and thin original blue finish. The buttplate has strong original finish on the tang with the balance having a smooth brownish gray patina. The replacement stock and forearm have been sanded and refinished, and remain very good with a few minor dings and dents, and a very small fill repair on the left side wrist. The markings are clear and crisp. The action is excellent.
