Description:

This lot consists of two nearly identical engraved French flintlock pistols. The pistol has a smooth bore barrel manufactured without sights, with the top and upper flats of the octagon section and at the muzzle featuring a floral and dot engraving. The barrel engraving including the proof on the left side at the breech was highlighted in gold. The lock plate has an engraved border accented with scrollwork behind the hammer which is also engraved. The border engraved side plate features scrollwork flanking a floral blossom. An additional floral blossom appears on the trigger guard with chiseled finial. Full length stock with buttcap, ornate thumb shield, and carving around the trigger guard and upper tang. The buttcap features a line engraving and is fitted with an engraved oval disc. Complete with a swelled horn tipped wooden ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have been cleaned and have aged to a mottled gray patina with some minor pitting. The barrel engraving retains traces of the gold. The stock is very fine with some minor dings and scratches.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have been cleaned and have aged to a mottled gray patina with some minor pitting. The barrel engraved retains scattered traces of the gold. The stock is fine with exception of a couple filled repairs near the thumb shield and a couple small hairline cracks on the forearm (left side), along with some minor dings and scratches.
