Description:Starting in the first half of the 19th century as Hollis Brothers & Company, Hollis & Sons was a supplier of pistols and shotguns, and also produced muskets for the North American Indian trade. Blade and notch sights on the barrel, with scroll engraving on the bolster, breech, and upper tang. Similar engraving is present on the hammer, with a zigzag scale pattern on top, and the lock plate marked "HOLLIS/ & SONS", both casehardened. Furnished with German silver stock tip, reverse and accent plates, wedge escutcheons, teardrop buttcap, shield escutcheon behind the tang, and trigger guard, the latter scroll engraved with a flared and engraved finial. With an ebony ramrod, fitted with a brass band around the front tip. Varnished walnut stock with a checkered bird's head butt.
Rating Definition:Very fine. With the browned twist-steel pattern clearly visible on the barrel, strong and dark, with some lightening near the front. The lock, hammer and breech show a darker mixed gray, with bright original color around the hammer screw and on the front of the lock. Silver is excellent, with some mild dings, a green tint around the trigger, and fine mixed age color overall. Stock is very fine, with some light pressure dents and small spots of varnish loss. Mechanically fine.
