This large frame unmarked, unidentified percussion revolver could well be a prototype or experimental revolver. It was left in the white after it was manufactured and has no markings at all. The loading lever latch is very similar to the Colt Navy style and the rear section just ahead of the frame is incased. The lower left side of the frame has a 3/8" screw head which turns freely and appears to have no purpose. The cylinder has rectangular stops and the rear section is machined with the percussion nipples recessed into individual cylinder shaped housings. There is a groove in the top of the barrel at the muzzle for a blade sight and the top strap is cut with a sighting groove. The revolver is fitted with nicely figured smooth varnished walnut grips. The revolver is complete with a detachable stock, similar to an Alsop stock, made from nicely figured walnut with a high gloss varnished finish with a crescent buttplate. The connecting iron is reversed "C" shaped which slides into the grooved butt at the bottom and into a hole in the top of the backstrap which is secured by a spring loaded catch on the attaching iron. This is a very well made revolver and its believed to be one of a kind.
Refinished. The metal surfaces have a smooth dull brown finish overall. There is a small amount of pin prick type pitting (under the finish) on the cylinder and some flash pitting around the percussion nipples. The action is excellent. The grips are excellent with only light handling marks. The stock has been broken and repaired at the wrist, remaining solid, a large piece of the toe has been broken off and repaired and the stock was crudely figured to accommodate the buttplate heel tang. Overall sanding marks are visible and there are a few minor dings. A very nicely built, possibly prototype or experimental, one of a kind percussion revolver.
