This is an exceptional Colt Third Generation Single Action Army that was commissioned and sold by the Colt factory as the engraved "Custom Edition". There were only 50 pistols made in total with 25 having the 5 1/2 inch barrels and 25 with the 7 1/2 inch barrels and was the first Colt Custom Shop hand engraved special edition. This specific pistol is serial numbered "27SPL" and has the 5 1/2 inch barrel and is consecutively numbered to the following lot. These pistols were all produced in their own serial number range and this pistol is accompanied with a Colt factory letter dated Sept. 1995. The Alvin White engraving company was probably one of the most prominent group of engravers ever used by the Colt factory. His company was founded in early 1961 at the same time the original Colt custom shop was established to provided a custom engraving service to high end customers. This pistol has C+ (75%) fine English scroll engraving overall with the inscription "CUSTOM EDITION" inlaid in 24K gold on the left side of the barrel along with the serial number also have inlayed with 24k Gold. It has the standard barrel and receiver markings with the high polish Colt blued finish on the metal parts and the color casehardened finish on the frame and loading gate. The pistol was fitted with a set of smooth two-piece walnut grips and is complete with a French fitted walnut case with gold colored velvet lining.

As new and unfired with 99% of the original Colt factory blue and color casehardened finish. There is a very, very slight drag line on the cylinder in a couple of places which may indicated that it was turned at some point. The grips are also in like new condition with no handling marks. The walnut case is also in like new condition showing only some minor wear in side on the velvet material just from the revolver being removed from time to time.
