Description:Introduced in the 1830's, with production running through to the Civil War. The screw-on barrel is properly without sights. The barrel address is marked along 5 flats and reads "CAST STEEL/WARRANTED/POCKET RIFLE/ALLEN & THURBER/GRAFTON MASS.". The serial number"55" is stamped on the bottom flat. Casehardened bar hammer marked "ALLEN'S PATENT" on the top and "ALLEN & THURBER/ GRAFTON MASS" on the left flat. The side plates and grip strap are engraved with a simple scroll pattern. Finished with a two piece walnut grip with a small German silver eschuon on each side.
Rating Definition:Good. All metal surfaces are now a mottled gray patina overall with spotting and a few patches of isolated pin prick pitting. The grips are good displaying only minor pressure marks. Mechanically fine. From the Will Hoffeld Collection.

Description:Manufactured with the rare 6 inch barrel. Blade front and replaced notch rear sights. The left barrel flat is marked "BACON & CO. / NORWICH, CONN" with "CAST STEEL" on the next flat. Broad floral engraved rounded iron frame. Fitted with smooth round butt two-piece grips.
Rating Definition:Good with the metal surfaces exhibiting a gray mottled patina. The re-varnished undersized grips are very good with some light handling marks. The action is fine. From the Will Hoffeld Collection, purchased from Frank Sellers in 1987.
