Rating Definition:

1) Fine, the blade has some light nicks on the edge and three small spots of surface rust on one side. The hilt is excellent with bright brass. The grip is excellent. The scabbard is fair with surface rust on the shaft. The brass has a warm mustard patina and the etching is strong. 2) Good, the etching on the blade is lightly worn but legible except as noted above. The hilt has a fine patina with a very good grip, but has a cut/split on top and the wire wrap is tight, and missing cap. The scabbard is good, one side bright and the opposite has developed a dark color. The brass throat, tip and rings have an attractive patina and the etching is strong. 3) Excellent with light pin prick pitting on the tip of the blade, all markings clear and pronounced. The grip and knot are excellent. The scabbard is excellent, no marks on the leather and light handling marks on the brass. 4) Very good with light flaking of the finish which appears like light pitting in the blade. The leather grip has one small spot of wear. Wire wrap is tight. The scabbard is good with handling and usage marks on the leather wrap. The throat and tip have a fine patina.
