This gun was originally ordered by H & D Folsom Arms Company of New York and finished on November 9, 1940 according to the included factory letter, The gun was sent back to Winchester for repairs on March 17, 1978, as well as on June 4, 1982, with the repairs listed in the letter. The gun was subsequently wonderfully upgraded with fine engraving and gold inlays for donation by Pachmayr Gun Works. The gun has blued Winchester Proof Steel barrels featuring dual bead sights on the matted concave solid rib, "PACHMAYR CUSTOM" inlaid in gold near the left breech, a gold band and wedge of scroll at both muzzles, 3 3/4 inch wedges of floral scroll surrounding a gold quail on the left and a grouse on the right, chokes marked "WS-1"/"WS-2", and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the blued boxlock action which displays near full coverage floral scroll engraving surrounding a trio of relief gold inlaid game scenes before continuing onto the toplever, triggerguard, and both tangs. The game scenes consist of a pair of quail flushing on the left, a woodcock over "TOURNAMENT" on the underside, and a pair of flushing grouse on the right. The gun features a single selective gold trigger and a tang mounted manual safety with gold inlaid "SAFE" indicator. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and fancy fleur-de-lis checkered beavertail forend with engraved forend iron as well as a pistol grip stock with grip cap inscribed "DONATED BY/NANITTA & FRANK/PACHMAYR" and a Pachmayr Old English recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at nine inches from breech .729/.729 inch; choke constriction .004(jug)/.009 inches; minimum wall thickness .035/.035 inch; drop at comb 1 1/4 inches; drop at heel 2 inches; length of pull 14 inches.
Exceptionally fine as upgraded by Pachmayr, retaining 98% blue with some pitting visible on right top rear of receiver, sharp engraving, very fine gold inlays, and light handling evidence. The wood is also exceptionally fine with a few scattered small dings and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A wonderful example of Pachmayr quality and workmanship!
