Manufactured in 1936, this is an attractive example of Colt's New Service Model revolver in the desirable .44-40 W.C.F. caliber, which has long been associated with America's western frontier. Even after the days of the "Wild West", revolvers in .44-40 remained highly prized due to the ability to pair them with a Winchester Model 1892 in the same caliber and carry only one type of ammunition. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration (grips not listed) as well as sale to Klein Sporting Goods Company in Chicago, Illinois and shipment to Shapleigh Hardware Company in St. Louis, Missouri on 22 June 1936 as a single gun shipment. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two-line address and patent dates, while the model and caliber marking is on the left. There is a "VP" proof and "3" on the left near the trigger guard, and the left of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt. It is fitted with a blade front sight, frame-top groove rear sight, a pair of smooth pearl grips, and a lanyard swivel on the butt. Provenance: The Charles Marx Collection
Very fine, retains 98% plus of the period replated, factory quality nickel finish with some scattered light handling marks. The grips are very fine with a few light chips near the tops and a few light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
