Manufactured in 1887 and subsequently beautifully embellished/enhanced in the late 20th century with a high quality floral scroll engraving pattern on a stippled background accented with gold inlaid line borders. Although the engraving is unsigned, the work is that of a very talented late 20th/early 21st century artisan. The engraving covers most of the surface. Even the side of the front sight did not escape the engraver's embellishment. The barrel has the two-line Colt Hartford address on top. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking. The caliber designation "45 CAL" is marked on the left side of the trigger guard. Full blue finish and fitted with a highly attractive one-piece grip.
Exceptionally fine as highly embellished with 99% plus of the blue finish remaining, limited handling marks, and crisp engraving. The grip is excellent with very attractive color and grain. Mechanically excellent. A stunning work of modern firearms art on an antique black powder Colt SAA steel canvas.
