These Winchester advertisements were an excellent eye-catching piece in the early 20th century that were perfect for pulling potential customers into shops to buy Winchester firearms and ammunition. Used in a number of Winchester advertisements, the print depicts a barn setting with white "bear dogs" in the foreground and two large brown dogs that may be bloodhounds in the background. These dogs were reportedly part of the Winchester family hunting pack. The lower left corner is signed by the artist "H. R. Poore/Philadelphia". The period walnut frame measures approximately 41 1/4 inches x 32 inches, with the observable area of the print measuring approximately 34 3/4 inches x 25 1/2 inches.
Fine. The print displays well with vivid color and detail, with a few small minor tears right next to each other visible at the top edge. The frame is also fine, with raised grain, mild handling marks and general aging. This highly desirable Winchester "Bear Dog" advertising print would make a statement on the wall in any gun room or office!
