In 1967 Mario Abbiatico and Remo Salvinelli founded Fabbrica Armi di Mario Abbiatico e Remo Salvinelli, more commonly known as FAMARS. Since the beginning the two have been innovators and have made a name for themselves creating some of the finest bespoke guns ever built. This gun was built with blued steel barrels featuring a single nickel bead sight on the smooth solid rib, faint import mark on lower barrel under the forend, 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors, and 2006 dated Italian proofs on the flat. The barrels are fitted to a beautifully coin finished round body action which displays gorgeous intricately cut and highly detailed floral scroll engraving over a blackened background for excellent contrast before extending to the triggerguard, upper tang, and toplever. The underside of the action is signed "ABBIATICO & SALVINELLI" in a banner, otherwise the engraving is unbroken. The triggerplate is signed "inc. A.Pasolini" to the right of the trigger for renowned Italian Master Engraver Alberto Pasolini who executed this masterwork. The gun features a single non-selective trigger and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid "SAFE". The gun is mounted with a highly attractive, highly figured and multi-point checkered forend with blued and engraved fittings and a pistol grip stock with a blued and engraved grip cap and a checkered bare butt. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at 15.9mm (.626 inches) and measured .627 inches; choke constriction .020/.032 inches; minimum wall thickness .040/.039 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 1 7/8 inch drop at heel; 15 5/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 8 oz.
Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence, a few areas of light dried grease on the action in the recessed areas around the fence, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. A great chance to own a piece from some of Italy's finest!
