Manufactured in 1935 in a limited production run of 579, the Republican Guard Contract Luger used a 1906 pattern frame with a grip safety, smooth back strap and tapered pencil barrel. Fixed sights, the chamber stamped "GNR" (Guarde Nationale Republicanie) and the Mauser banner on the toggle. The left side of the barrel extension and underside of the barrel have small "crown/crown/U" firing proofs, and the pistol is numbered in the military manner. This model also has the extractor and lower safety area marked "CARREGADA" and "SEGURANCA" respectively. Straw finished small parts, niter blue pins and screws, checkered grips and blued magazine with an unnumbered, WWII-era proofed alloy base. Included with the lot is a Portuguese-style black leather holster and two-magazine pouch, the latter stamped "1936" on the rear, a combination oiler and cleaning rod, and a pin punch.
Very fine, with 85% plus original blue finish, 70% straw, showing areas of brown patina, bright edge wear, scattered light scratches and dings, minor spotting and light handling marks. The grips are also very fine, with some mild dings and scuffs. The leather is very good, with cracking on the straps and hinges, a re-riveted belt loop on the holster, and mild scratches and scuffs overall. Mechanically excellent.
