Description:The right side of this interesting pistol's boxlock action is signed "G. TURNER/DUBLIN" in an oval surrounded by engraved martial patterns. Gunmaker George Turner was active in the late 18th century and into the 19th century in Dublin. The pistol has Irish Registration Act of 1843 markings from Wexford on the barrels which have false rifling at the muzzles and are numbered to match the breech plate. The breech collar has burst and border engraving. A sliding half-cock safeties is fitted on top of the action, and their are thumb-screws on the left and right sides. The robust walnut grip is checkered and has a plain silver pommel cap and an "SD" inscribed silver wrist escutcheon.
Rating Definition:Very good with mottled gray and brown patina on the iron, attractive aged patina on the silver, mellow aged patina on the breech collar, and general mild overall wear, including some light pitting. The grip is fine and has distinct checkering, light scratches and dings, and edge and handling wear. Mechanically fine.
