One of approximately 3,956 Model 1885 Remington-Lee bolt action rifles manufactured for the U.S. Navy c. 1889-1893. "U.S.N./naval anchor/No 1847/W.W.K." marked on top of the receiver ring, small "H" in a star Navy inspection stamps, and "RL" marked U.S. Springfield Armory buckhorn rear sight. Fitted with a walnut stock with cursive script letter marked on the left of the wrist.
Good, with traces of the original finish in protected areas, scattered silvering, brown and grey patinas, some minor pitting, some mild freckling, and light handling marks. The stock is very good as sanded and re-oiled with an epoxy repaired crack at the tang, a chip missing from the front right tip of the forend, and scattered minor dents and handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
