The topmost collar is marked "DUMONTHIER'S CHALLENGE/PATENTED DEC 1876" along with the Appleton marking, with "CG" added to the top section of veneer. NOTE: This weapon is registered as a National Firearms Act (NFA), AOW (Any Other Weapon). Although NOT a fully automatic weapon it is still controlled like a NFA weapon that is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
